What the number is, and what it is not
It is the time the job takes. It is not time you would get back, because no job goes to zero and some of it will always need a person. Anyone telling you the whole number is a saving is selling you something.
What it is useful for is size. A job worth forty hours a year and a job worth four hundred are different decisions, and most owners have never seen either written down.
